In May 2024, Gima S.p.A. completed the development of a custom automatic machine, dedicated to the construction and assembly of rings for pendants, intended for use in fashion accessories and religious articles.
Machine features
The machine, custom-built at the client’s request, constructs the rings directly from 1mm thick galvanized wire, shaping it around the pendant using a mechanical cam system controlled by numerical control, ensuring the ring is secure and sturdy.
The tools are fully integrated into an automation system equipped with features designed to minimize cycle time, including vision systems, loading vibrators, and high-precision sensors. These components help eliminate the risks of machine downtime while ensuring the best performance in terms of quality.
Design aspects, hardware, and software
Most of the physical components (mechanical parts, supports, bases, just to name a few) were specifically designed and manufactured for this project, using CNC machining centers, grinders, plasma cutting, and 3D printing. This approach allowed the designers to have the widest range of possible construction and performance solutions to choose from, while providing the client with the best solution for the intended function.
The selection of electrical and electronic components was carefully made from the products of leading brands in the automation sector, as well as partners of Gima S.p.A.
The software programming, developed internally by Gima S.p.A.’s technical department, is custom-designed and specific to the machine. In addition to allowing for some degree of variability within the performed processing, it integrates safety functions that complement the mechanical and design solutions required by CE regulations.
